Project Instructions
(customize)
There are two scenarios to choose from. Based on what you have learned in class thus far, and using five or more outside sources, write a unified and clear essay in response to the questions raised by one of the scenarios. You are expected to consult outside sources, that is, to go beyond what has been presented in class.
Format
- Three pages (maximum) of text, with references (endnotes) on page 4.
- 12-point normal font (e.g. Times Roman, not italic or script)
- double-spaced
- 1-inch margins all around with page numbers
- no cover sheet
Criteria for paper grading (25 points)
- Quality of presentation of the substantive issues (10 points): demonstrates understanding of the topic and knowledge of the topic
- Writing level (5 points): writing is clear, concise, and arguments are logical
- Citations (5 points): appropriate use of relevant sources
- Group Participation (5 points): at least 5 discussion posts, announcements, or additions to Wiki page.
Citations
Please use endnotes, so that the text is on the first 3 pages and the endnotes are on the 4th page. Citations are not necessary for material discussed in class/lecture, but please do reference journal sources from the class reading if you use them. You are expected to read and reference 5 or more references that were not cited in a lecture or part of the reading. Examples of appropriate references include, but are not limited to, journal articles, newspaper articles, and material from websites. More references do not earn more points. As a guideline, use citations appropriately to support the points that you make.
Questions?
If you still have questions, please email your section TAs.
Note: Due to the large number of students in the class, we cannot review rough drafts
