Box Styles

The Styles menu shown in Figure 3 provides context-sensitive styles for blocks of text, images, text, and tables. The text styles are discussed on the Text Formatting page.

The purpose and use of Call Out Box Styles Links to an external site. is addressed in the Evolution documentation in WCLD 101. The point of this section is to discuss how these elements affect accessibility.

  • Helpful visual cues for sighted students.
  • Not read by screen readers.
  • Combine box styles with good heading structure.
  • Mark up quoted material with quote marks for short quotes or blockquote tags.

Do not use them as they only way to communicate information

These styles should not be used to communicate meaning about the text in them. For instance, don't say, "All examples are in blue boxes," because some students won't know there are blue boxes or may see color differently than most. Instead, add a heading or text label to make it clear what that content is. This is also true for similar styles used in Canvas.

For more box styles, please refer to the Box Module in the Canvas Styles resource.
