Math Overview

Historically, equations have been added to web pages as images, which are not accessible because screen readers cannot read image files. You can add alt text, but It is difficult to accurately describe most equations, and images don't scale well for people who are using magnifying software. Our recommendation is to use MathML, but the process for creating math content varies, depending on whether your content is in Evolution or Canvas.

Formatting math code correctly is a learned skill. Common pitfalls include adding spaces, failing to format text as text, trying to include too many equations in one set of math tags, and including sentence punctuation as part of the math code. This lesson covers how to avoid these pitfalls, but we recommend talking with a consultant before creating math code for time-saving tips and to get advice appropriate to your context.
