Choosing Videos
Progressive enhancement is an approach to content development that starts with text, which is the most accessible format, and then enhances the key points with images, audio, or video.
Guidelines for choosing video content
- Best choice: ready-made captioned videos
- The best choice for video content is ready-made captioned content such as Swank videos found in the Library, TED Talks, LinkedInLearing videos, or YouTube videos with English captions (more details on the Captions and Transcripts page).
- Good choice - in-house videos
- If the type of video content you want doesn't already exist, the next best option is to work with our talented multimedia team to create an in-house video, which will be hosted on our servers and captioned and transcribed as part of production.
- Fair - ready-made videos we host and caption
- If neither of those options work, and you need to choose 3rd-party uncaptioned or auto-captioned content, we recommend seeking copyright permission Links to an external site.so a captioned version can be hosted on World Campus servers.
- Last resort - streaming YouTube videos with added captions via Kaltura
- As a last resort we can stream YouTube videos via Kaltura and get them professionally captioned. The downside with this approach is that the video could stop working at any moment if it is removed by YouTube or the person who uploaded it.
