WCLD Accommodation Work Process
Many students at World Campus receive accommodations every semester because they have documented disabilities. It is our responsibility to make sure they get the appropriate accommodations. This page explains what to do when you learn about an accommodation need, which could come from an accessibility notification email or an instructor.
The Process
The following flowchart depicts the accommodation process described on this page.
Accessibility Email Notifications
Follow this process if you get a notification email:
- Reply to the email to indicate that you have received the notification.
- Assist with preparing for live captioning if the course has synchronous web-conferencing events and the student requires it. Follow the instructions in the email to provide a schedule and description of any opportunities for live interaction.
- Set up split exams if needed. Follow the instructions on the Split Exam Accommodations page.
- Put in an Accessibility—Accommodation request in Workfront for students with a hearing or vision impairment or for students approved for captions.
In the request, include the following things:
- the type of disability (hearing, vision, etc.) using the Accommodation Type drop-down menu,
- any specific concerns about the course content and details about the student's needs or assistive technology (if known) in the Description field, and
- the URL of the course space where the review should be done in the URL field (typically the student's section).
The Accessibility Request
Once you are informed of an accommodation need, if you need help, you can put in an accessibility request in Workfront. The following things will happen:
- An accessibility consultant will reach out to request access to the course space you would like to have reviewed.
- They will review the course, noting any necessary work on the Course Review Form.
- If no work is needed, they will let you know and close the request.
- If work is needed, they will set up a meeting with the design team to discuss what needs to be done and determine who will complete each task.
- When the work is complete, the consultant will attach a copy of the Course Review Form to the request, log their hours, and close it.
- The design team will ensure that any work is preserved for future semesters.
Email From Instructor
If you find out about an accommodation via the instructor and not a notification email, work with the instructor to implement the accommodations. For more information about why you may find out about an accommodation in this way rather than a notification email, please see the World Campus Accessibility Notification Email page.
