How to Take this Class

You will work through this course chronologically from Modules or Home. Before you begin the course, please read the entire syllabus and purchase the required textbooks. Every time you log in, be sure to check for new announcements from your instructor.

How this Class is Organized

Our course is divided into four unit cycles that correspond to the four major assignments. Each assignment is structured to meet specific program and course objectives. For each major assignment, you will complete a planning, review, and revision activity.

Planning

The planning workshop will always be scheduled during the first week of a unit cycle to help you structure ideas for your essay. The purpose of the planning workshop is for you to be able to get early feedback from your instructor and peers about your project before you get too far in the drafting process. As you prepare to complete each assignment, use this workshop to ask your instructor specific questions about your work or the assignment.

Peer Review

The peer review activity (which requires you to submit a completed draft of an assignment and to respond to a peer's work) will typically occur in the second or third week of a unit. All papers must go through a review process before they can be accepted.

Revision

After peer review, you are expected to revise your draft before your final submission. We will have a revision activity, typically scheduled in the third or fourth week, to support and guide your revision work. This process will be repeated for each major assignment.

Reading Load

You will be asked to do a great deal of reading in this course, possibly more than you are used to in other courses. Careful and thorough reading will be crucial to any level of success in this course. Our textbook, videos, and commentary readings will explain and clarify concepts, ideas, terms, and applications. Without thorough reading you will be at a serious disadvantage when you try to complete the writing work.

Note: Because they are not dated, readings will not appear in your calendar view. Be sure to work through this course using Modules or Home.
