Course Waitlists

When you're looking for courses to schedule, one piece of information to pay close attention to can be found in the Status column. This column is on the right-hand side of the course search screen and is directly to the left of the Select button (see Figure 2.8).

This column will be populated with one of three icons: a green circle indicating that a course is open, a blue square indicating the course is closed, or a yellow triangle indicating that the course is in wait list status (also indicated in Figure 2.8).

If a course that you're interested in is in wait list status, you'll still be able to select it even though it's currently full. You will need to check the Wait List If Class Is Full box on the Enrollment Preferences display to get your place in line, so be sure that you check that box! You'll receive a message that you have been successfully added to the wait list if everything was done correctly.

You can add up to 15 credits per semester onto your wait list, and the courses will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis. This means that as seats become available, they will be given to students in the order that they joined the wait list. No one can move you from your place in line; however, if you have a hold placed on your account after you have wait-listed a course, you will be skipped should a seat become available. This is because wait list functionality is not available for student accounts with registration holds applied to them.

If seats become available in a course that you have wait-listed, you'll be added to the course automatically. This means that it's very important to stay on top of your schedule. You won't be charged for adding courses to a wait list, but you could end up with more classes on your schedule than you anticipated if seats become available in multiple courses. LionPATH doesn't automatically notify you when you are granted access to a wait-listed course, so if you have multiple courses (or multiple sections of one course) on your wait list, be sure to check LionPATH often so that you can adjust your schedule accordingly!
