Writing Readiness
Writing will likely be a significant part of your time at World Campus. You will write papers for some classes, post to discussions in others, and email your classmates and professors.
That said, it may have been a while since you wrote in a formal environment. Some students even report that they feel anxious about writing essays, and that’s ok. These questions can help you evaluate your own writing readiness.
- Do you consider yourself a confident and competent writer?
- How often do you write in your daily life (for work, for example)?
- Are you nervous about writing for your classes?
After considering these questions, you may feel more confident and prepared, but you may also want to explore additional support or even talk to someone about writing support options. Please reach out to your adviser or Academic Support if you would like to discuss your answers to these questions or to discuss writing support at World Campus.
Writing Resources
If you find that you would like to brush up on your writing, a number of resources are available to support you. The first of these is the dedicated Writing Resources page Links to an external site.from our Academic Support Center.
Another resource is Tutor.com, which has support available in some writing-intensive courses like ENGL 15 and ENGL 202. Tutor.com also has a series of writing tips and tricks in their Writing Center Links to an external site.. More information on Tutor.com can be found on the Tutoring and Academic Support page in NSO.
Once you have begun your classes, you can also take a video series on Writing a Research Paper through LinkedIn Learning. As was previously mentioned in NSO, courses in LinkedIn Learning won’t be available until you begin your classes.
