Penn State Global advances and supports global engagement across the University The office manages a broad range of programs, such as education abroad; supports international students and scholars; and facilitates the University's many international partnerships around the world. Additionally, the office offers programming for faculty, staff and students around cultural competency and global learning, and administers the Global Safety Network, including other global safety support for University travelers. In summary, Penn State Global serves as the hub for global programs, initiatives and support, seeking to integrate global perspectives and engagement across education, research and outreach.

Our mandate is to vigorously promote Penn State's vision of becoming a truly global university. Penn State Global encourages all members of the Penn State community to incorporate global perspectives in their work, studies, and activities. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive range of international and intercultural educational opportunities for University faculty, staff, and students alike.

Penn State Global is comprised of the Office of the Vice Provost and various sub-units, including Personnel and Business Operations, International Student and Scholar Advising, Global Learning, Global Partnerships, Global Initiatives and Operations, and Alumni Relations and Stewardship. Together, we serve over 3,000 students who study abroad each year; more than 9,000 international students enrolled at Penn State; and the faculty who support them all. Global Safety Network 

We are the office that handles the Global Safety Network Links to an external site., which is required for all faculty to fill out by the University for all University-related international travel.

Global vs World Campus 

We are not World Campus – we support the international student and scholar population at Penn State through the immigration process; facilitate and oversee Education Abroad programs; and cultivate and support partnership and research development around the world.

Global Collaborations

We support international research partnerships and activities around the world. Our Global Collaborations team facilitates the creation of agreements between Penn State and other universities, and our Partnerships team pursues opportunities for faculty to work with our strategic partners. International Support

We support all international students at the University – from pre-arrival through graduation. We also assist faculty in internationalizing their curriculum and being more comfortable with global cultures in their classroom. Education Abroad Programs

We assist faculty in developing and implementing education abroad programs Links to an external site., whether over a summer session or as part of a course. We also offer opportunities for digital global engagement through our EDGE (Experiential Digital Global Engagement) program Links to an external site..

 

Relevant New Faculty Programming


We are beginning to offer global learning workshops for faculty through our Global Learning Faculty Fellows program. We are hoping to begin offering more for faculty regarding GSN, EDGE, Education Abroad, and working with global perspectives in your classroom. We are also engaged in the Provost's Faculty Endorsement Program, offering endorsements in Global Learning, EDGE, Education Abroad, and more. Penn State Global Fun Facts


Our Global Engagement team provides robust programming for international students once they arrive on our campuses. Some big examples:

  • Global Careers Institute Links to an external site. - connecting international and domestic students with internationally-focused alumni to provide mentorship and information in pursuing global careers
  • Global Engagement and Leadership Experience Links to an external site., or GELE (pronounced “Jelly”) – a weekend retreat that brings domestic and international students together in a multicultural experience that truly breaks down barriers and teaches leadership skills
  • Trips – organized trips to major U.S. locations such as Washington DC, New York City, Philadelphia, or historical sites such as Gettysburg

Penn State ranks #2 in producing Faculty Fulbright recipients for 2024-25 and has been a Top Producer for over a decade running.
