World Campus Online Faculty Development
World Campus Online Faculty Development offers short, instructor-led and self-guided courses to help instructors enhance their teaching skills. Courses cover best practices for teaching, research-based insights on course design and alignment, and strategies applicable to both online and in-person instruction. Our programs prepare part-time instructors for teaching predesigned courses and using Canvas. For course authors, we offer courses on design, assessment, inclusive pedagogy, teamwork, gamification, and more. If you're collaborating with an instructional designer, our courses can complement that relationship and help you work effectively with them.
Our mission is to support Penn State faculty throughout their teaching careers to improve and enhance their online teaching. Courses are free and you can register on the Online Faculty Development course catalog.

Primary Strategic Goals
- Support instructors who teach predesigned courses with engagement, instructor presence online, understanding our diverse student population, knowing where to go for help, and creating a climate of belonging.
- Help course authors design educational engagements according to research-based principles, work with an instructional designer, create engaging activities, employ best-practices, and determine if their assessments are meeting their goals.
- Guide faculty members in best-practices in academic advising.
- Develop courses on new technology and techniques in teaching and learning.
