Recreation

With so many recreation opportunities at Penn State, you can stay fit, have fun, reduce stress, learn a new sport, or explore the outdoors. The Penn State student fee gives you access to most of the Campus Recreation spaces, so find your challenge and get moving.

Campus Recreation offers a variety of recreational activities outside of the classroom, including outdoor adventures, aquatics, club sports, fitness and wellness, and intramural sports.

Outdoor Adventures:

Known as Penn State’s base camp for adventure, Campus Recreation offers a wide range of services and opportunities for indoor and outdoor adventures to students, faculty/staff, and organizations/businesses. Whether you are looking to challenge your group’s teamwork abilities, rent some outdoor gear, spend some time on our indoor rock wall, or explore the trails and rivers of central Pennsylvania and beyond, this is the program for you.

Aquatics:

Campus Recreation offers a variety of aquatic opportunities for health and wellness for all ages and skill levels, including swim school, and safety education courses, in addition to recreational swim.

Club Sports:

Looking to get involved in a student-run sport? Club Sports offers one of the most diverse selections of sports. From ice hockey to fencing, we've got you covered.

The Penn State Club Sports Program oversees student organizations whose primary mission is to further sport and physical activity on campus. These organizations are student-run and give you the opportunity to develop leadership skills in budgeting, organization, and time management. All club sports organizations compete under the purview of a national governing body with an emphasis on intercollegiate competition and incorporate the learning of sport-specific skills through instruction. Club sports organizations may select members through a tryout process.

All graduate students registered for at least one credit hour at the University Park campus are eligible to join a club.

  • Intercollegiate athletes are not eligible to participate in Club Sports. Please contact the assistant director of Competitive Sports with any specific questions.
  • Students enrolled at the World Campus are not considered University Park students unless they are also enrolled in at least one credit hour at the University Park campus.

Fitness and Wellness:

Campus Recreation Fitness and Wellbeing programming offers opportunities to develop new skills, meet new people and improve your fitness level.

Fitness and Wellbeing offers over 100 fitness offerings, including weekly free Group Fitness Classes, and Small Group/Instructional Training classes, and Personal Training packages for an additional fee. In addition, we offer several special events throughout the year and can customize a program for your group or organization!

Intramural Sports:

The Intramural Sports Program offers a variety of team and individual sports competitions designed to meet the social and competitive needs of students, faculty, and staff at the University Park Campus. You have the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive recreational sports and to provide enjoyable experiences with the following goals in mind:

  • promote and provide quality service, facilities, and equipment
  • nurture and celebrate the wholesome and worthwhile use of leisure, healthy lifestyles, and wellness
  • create opportunities for the growth and development
