Grading Policy
Most Penn State courses take a broad approach to grading, meaning that students are assessed on many different types of assignments throughout the duration of the semester, rather than by a single, end-of-semester final exam or project. Professors are unique and creative and spend a lot of time thinking about the best way to assess (grade) your learning.
Important things to note about grades
- Assessments might include participation, attendance, homework, quizzes, group projects, presentations, papers, etc.
- The syllabus should provide details about the various types of assignments, due dates, overall grading requirements, etc.
- Grades are recorded in Canvas for most classes, but it is always a good idea to keep track of your own grades
- Your professors want you to be successful and are there to help. If you have questions/concerns about grades, meet with them and ask them for suggestions for doing better.
