Who needs Health Insurance?

Penn State requires the following individuals to have health insurance:

• All international (J and F visa holder) students (graduate and undergraduate)
• Any international (J or F visa holder) spouse or children who are traveling with the student

There are several options for buying health insurance. The first option is to purchase the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for Penn State through LionPATH Links to an external site.. The SHIP for Penn State offers comprehensive health insurance at a competitive price with a wide network of providers across the United States. 

Students may also choose to purchase an alternate health insurance plan, but the plan you chose must meet all the International Student and Dependent Waiver Standards for the Student Health Insurance Links to an external site.Plan insurance requirements (see the Enrollment, Billing, and Deadlines section for details).
