Academic Action Plan

Students on Academic Warning must submit an Academic Action Plan Links to an external site. early in the semester. The purpose of the plan is for students to reflect on the academic and/or personal challenges that led the student to be placed on Academic Warning. With those challenges in mind, students will set two SMART goals to address concerns and identify campus resources to support them in achieving their goals.

Overview of SMART Goals

SMART Goals - Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time-Bound

Here are some examples of SMART goals related to the most common areas of challenge for students.

Time Management:

  • I will dedicate 2 hours per day, from 7-9 PM, to focus on studying for upcoming exams and quizzes by creating a weekly schedule of upcoming exams, quizzes, and assignments.
  • I will complete all assigned readings for each class within 24 hours of receiving them by using a dedicated reading time every day.
  • I will maintain a weekly calendar to prioritize and allocate specific blocks of time for each major assignment, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • I will develop a weekly schedule that includes dedicated time for studying, exercise, sleep, and social activities.

Study Skills:

  • I will reduce phone distractions during study sessions by silencing notifications and only checking for messages during designated break times.
  • I will create 100 flashcards for my Biology course every unit and will spend 20 minutes per day reviewing the flashcards.
  • I will rewrite and organize my notes after every History class to review and study the information presented in class.

Difficulty with Course Content:

  • I will actively engage in class by asking at least one clarifying question per lecture during my Physics course.
  • I will schedule weekly tutoring sessions for my MATH 21 course and attend every session.

Personal Concerns:

  • I will schedule and attend weekly counseling sessions with CAPS and use the strategies discussed to help manage my anxiety.
  • I will schedule an appointment with Student Disability Resources before the end of January to discuss how to implement my accommodations this semester.
