  • 29.1 or more earned credits
  • 2.0 cumulative GPA

Course Recommendations

  • Summer: Choose 2 courses (6 credits overall) *
    • Preferably HM 101 and NUTR 100
    • *LEAP Students: Be sure not to choose courses for the fall that you are taking this summer.
  • Fall: Choose 5–6 courses (15–17 credits overall)

Major (Must take 6 credits)

  • HM 101: Exploring the Global Hospitality Industry (3 credits)
  • HM 202: Colloquium in Hospitality Management (1 credit)
  • HM 203: Hospitality Pre-Professional Development Seminar (1 credit)
  • HM 271: Intro to Hospitality Technology (2 credits)
  • HM 272: Introduction to Worksheet-Based Analysis and Modeling for Managerial Decision Making (2 credits)

First-Year Seminar

  • HM 100S (1 credit) -AND - PSU 14 First-Year Seminar (1 credit)
    • Students can take any of the thematic courses offered by the HHD departments including: BBH 123S (1), CSD 297(1), HPA 123S (1), HM 297(1), HDFS 101S (3), KINES 123S (1), NUTR 123S (1) or RPTM 120S (3).
  • BBH 102S (varsity athletes only, to be registered later, 3 credits, fulfills FYS requirement)
  • LEAP and Aurora enrollment are approved subs for FYS. Students enrolled in those programs do not have to schedule a First-Year Seminar and thematic course.

Writing/Speaking (GWS) (select 1–2)

  • ENGL 15, ENGL 15A, ENGL 30 or ESL 15: Rhetoric and Composition
  • CAS 100A, B, or C: Effective Speech

Quantification (GQ) (select 1)

  • STAT 100 (3) or STAT 200 (4) – either will meet the HM Major requirement… Are you strong in math?

Natural Science (GN) (select 1)

  • Any GN course is fine. Go with what you like most. Rarely do HM students take BIOL, CHEM, PHYS.

Arts (GA) (select 1)

  • Any

Humanities (GH) (select 1)

  • Any
  • Try to choose one with an IL and/or US (International and/or US Cultures) designation

Social/Behavioral Science (GS) (select 1–2):

  • ECON 102 (3) or ECON 104 (3) – Counts as a Major requirement

Health and Wellness (GHW)

  • NUTR 100: Nutrition Aspects for a Healthy Lifestyle (3 credits) counts as Major requirement
