Alexandria Shreffler
I am passionate about using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a tool to find answers to questions in a variety of contexts.
I am currently studying for my master's degree in Geographic Information Systems (Penn State, 2020), for which I have developed a project proposalLinks to an external site. in preparation for my graduation at the end of 2020. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Environmental studies (Allegheny College, 2018), though the broad scope of my education has exposed me to a variety of fields and disciplines. My undergraduate research project at Allegheny combined disciplines by evaluating the relationship between community wellbeing, green space, and walkability in Oil City, Pennsylvania. Other projects completed using GIS included topics such as conservation, forest management, energy, and environmental degradation. Please review these projects by clicking through other pages of my portfolio.
My recent employment at Allegheny Inspections involved processing inspection reports for quality and issuing recommendations to insurance clients based on relevant property exposures and hazards. Currently, I am the Geospatial Analyst for the Venango County Regional Planning Commission where I am in charge of mapping requests for the county and participating municipalities. I am also going to be developing a web-panel which will grant public access to GIS resources throughout the region. In the future, I would like to learn more about city planning and resource management, though I am always looking for new opportunities to learn about interesting topics and fields.
