Add Content

This module explores how to create and organize content and share it with students. Top Hat offers a variety of ways to add content to your courses, including uploading previously created original content such as PowerPoint slides and creating new content directly in Top Hat. You will be able to explore different ways of adding content to your Top Hat courses using the Content tab.

Upload and Organize Teaching Content

You can upload previously created files in a variety of formats as well as slides into your Top Hat course. Read more about how to upload content to your Top Hat course in the links below:

NOTE: It is best practice to edit slides directly in PowerPoint, not in Top Hat. Also, when uploading PowerPoint slides, please be aware that animations and certain fonts are not supported by Top Hat.  To learn more, you can check out the list of supported fonts in the following articles:

If the file you are uploading is in a PDF format, you and your students can also preview the file in your Top Hat course without downloading them to local devices. See the following link to learn how to upload and preview a PDF file within a Top Hat course:

Once you have uploaded content, you can organize it in folders within your Top Hat course. Please note that a new folder will automatically be created when you upload slides, but you can rename and add additional folders to organize your classroom content. See the following link for more information on adding and managing folders:

Creating Pages

In addition to uploading content into your Top Hat course, you can also create content directly in Top Hat with pages. Pages are documents created in Top Hat which can include text, images, and video, as well as interactive features such as questions and discussions. The following links walk you through how to create pages and add different types of content to them:

Copying/Duplicating Content

If you are teaching multiple class sections of the same course and wish to create one Top Hat course for each section, or if you wish to reuse your Top Hat materials for the next semester, you can copy the content from one existing Top Hat course to another. The following link walks you through how to copy your Top Hat materials from one Top Hat course to another:
