Canvas

Online Teaching & Learning System - Canvas

Canvas is Penn State's Learning Management System (LMS), where faculty build their courses and share syllabus, readings, assignments, and other class materials with students. New faculty are encouraged to take time early in their teaching experiences to learn about the many ways Canvas can support and enhance their teaching. The main page for Canvas resources are found at https://canvas.psu.edu/ Links to an external site.

There are extensive online learning tools through the Penn State Canvas Learning Center Links to an external site.. Penn State’s Canvas Learning Center is a one-stop shop for instructors and support staff to learn how to use Canvas. The Learning Center collects the best tutorials, live training sessions, videos, and other resources from Instructure and Penn State sources in one, self-directed curriculum called the Canvas Learning Path. Penn State also offers 24-hour IT assistance Links to an external site.in person, online, or by phone if needed.

Canvas permits an extensive number of integrations with courseware for faculty to use in their class. If you like to use TopHat, Poll Everywhere, PackBack, or similar teaching tools, these and others can be integrated into and accessed through Canvas. Because these tools can often require sharing student data with external companies, Penn State has an approval process for all courseware. Faculty can see what courseware tools are already approved or seek approval for new ones through https://sites.psu.edu/coursewarepsu/ Links to an external site..
