Hi there. My name is Robert Badman. Quite simply, I’m here to entertain you. Every post into my PAS series will have two sections: a section about The Office (U.S.) and a section with a chapter from my new novel. I need feedback for the novel because I am writing it weekly.

I will also attempt to include a humorous screenshot of my most recent episode of the office. For example, the picture below is an unmanned phone as the boss trying to contact his employees. As you can tell, he is not being very successful.

As I watch at least one new show weekly, I will keep you updated with plot summaries and plot twists. I will give feedback on the characters and I will attempt to include one line that is funny even in isolation from the show.

The Office (U.S.) takes place in a company called Dunder Mifflin Paper, located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The basic premise (for now) is to avoid downsizing, the whole office must band together to save themselves and each other.

There is quite the collection of characters in the show. The main character, Michael, is the boss. He runs the show in his office and tries to make his employees be “scared of how much they love him.”

His apprentice of sorts, which turns into a joke repeatedly throughout the show, is Dwight. He is constantly scrambling for Michael’s love and attention. Dwight is just a lowly salesman, but he is also the assistant to the regional manager (Michael), meaning that he is always ready to do whatever Michael wants.

Pam is the secretary and she is caught in a love triangle with her unimportant warehouse worker fiancee and Jim, another lowly salesman. There are also some other supporting characters, but they are used mostly as the target for jokes about looks or random office humor.

AS A REMINDER, I NEED FEEDBACK TO CONTINUE TELLING THE STORY. GIVE PLOT SUGGESTIONS OR EVEN MINOR FEEDBACK ABOUT STYLE OR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, PLEASE.

Chapter 1:

Hi! How are you doing today? My name is Drew, and I’m an inventor! You are listening to my new thought-projection device. The way it works is pretty simple, actually. I force a thought to the front of my brain, and the device prints the brainwaves in a way that makes sense in English. It’s not perfect yet, so please don’t judge grammatical or spelling mistakes too harshly!

So, I’m going to take you on an adventure called my life. Today was pretty exciting! I work with a spy agency, but don’t tell anyone. It’s called the BIT, or British International Team. You can bet that when you run across a store named “Bananas In Thames” or “Bottles Included Tonight,” it is actually a front for the BIT. That’s classified, by the way. You’re welcome.

We received a distress call from one of our agents in the field. He was disguised as an international teenage ambassador to Norway using some creative projection device I made a few years ago. Because of the age of the device, it glitched and Mike’s cover was completely blown. By the way? Not my fault they used outdated software.

Anyway, today in the lab we needed to create a new device to get Mike out of Norway as soon as possible, or help him remain safe while still in Norway. I’ll tell you about that tomorrow because right now I am starved and I need to eat. It was a long day.
